Gainesville City Councilman George Wangemann gets a standing ovation Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, during the Gainesville City Council meeting at the Public Safety Complex following his announcement of leaving the council at the end of the year. Wangemann, the longest-serving seated member of the Gainesville City Council was elected in 1986.
